Artivist Residency "Utopian and (Im)possible Cities"

The collective (se)cura humana @securahumana conducted the artistic residency "Utopian and (Im)possible Cities," at the invitation of Sesc Osasco @sescosasco, aiming to imagine new worlds through the lens of "Ancestral Future" by Aílton Krenak. 🌍

Synopsis:

The video of the artivist residency “Utopian and (Im)possible Cities,” led by the collective (se)cura humana and produced by Sesc Osasco, documents the transformation of an urban territory and polluted rivers into a space of dreams and revitalization. Guided by Aílton Krenak's concept of Ancestral Future, participants explore the city of Osasco and its rivers, creating concrete actions and using artificial intelligence to shape their utopian visions. Through artistic creations and interventions, the video presents a new urban exercise where the past and future converge in the present, bridging advanced technology and ancestral knowledge.

Argument:

“Utopian and (Im)possible Cities” opens with a message to the past, highlighting the restoration of a once-degraded river. This video is the result of an artivist residency led by the collective (se)cura humana, invited by Sesc Osasco, in which artists explore the city’s polluted rivers and urban landscapes. Mediated by Aílton Krenak's Ancestral Future concept, participants are encouraged to dream and envision a new city through creative expressions.

These dreams are materialized with artificial intelligence, turning visions into photographic scenarios featuring the participants themselves. The photos are printed as lambe-lambes (wheat-paste posters), which are later manually altered by the participants with drawings and engravings before being pasted on the Beco de Oz mural. The video’s final production also integrates AI to reimagine and transform moments from the residency, shaping an (im)possible world.

The narrative explores the disconnection between the city and its rivers, emphasizing the importance of building collective awareness that values common goods. Through reflections with the community, the film reveals how colonial legacies shaped modern attitudes toward land and water. As the video unfolds, viewers are invited to rethink their role in environmental preservation and imagine a regenerative future, where utopia becomes reality through collective efforts, the appreciation of ancestral practices, and the renaming of the Guatá Porã River—the "Good Path."

Thank you to everyone who joined us, sharing dreams and actions. Together, we’ve shown that it’s possible to reimagine and reinvent our urban space with creativity and respect for ancestry.
